AwardsThe Woodlands Field Group has received several awards of recognition for services to the community and excellence in volunteering. The Queens Award - 2008 The Queens Award for voluntary service is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK for outstanding work done in their local communities. Winners of the award receive a certificate signed by Her Majesty the Queen and a domed glass crystal. The Lord Lieutenant from the local county presents the certificate and the crystal to winning volunteer groups. Representatives from the group may also be invited to attend a royal garden party. In 2008, the Woodlands Field Group was awarded one of only four awards throughout the whole of Wales. An excellent achievement for the group. The Construction Excellence Award - 2008 Constructing Excellence is the single organisation charged with driving the change agenda in construction. We exist to improve industry performance in order to produce a better built environment. We are a cross-sector, cross-supply chain, member led organisation operating for the good of industry and its stakeholders. The Inspire Award - 2007 The Inspire Award was presented to the Woodlands Field Group in 2007 by the Open College Network for providing courses for the local community and improving learning. Grant Success The Woodlands Field and Neighbourhood Learning Centre are reliant on grant funding when it comes to providing the facilities and equipment used for some sessions. Below are a few applications we have recently been awarded that enable us to better our services. Tudor Trust Kevin Weaver has recently been able to get a successful application with Tudor Trust to continue his role at the NLC and provide close relations with the local community. As Manager of the centre he has been key in finding funding for many projects including the successful establishment of the Breastfeeding group among most of the current sessions running at the moment. Princes Trust The Princes Trust has been won by Shane Hunter to help improve the cyber cafe sessions that run every Monday and Friday. Additional IT equipment was purchased to allow more disadvantaged children from the local community to use the internet and computer facilities that they do not get at home.
